Sustainable Neighbourhoods

The two most significant proposals in the recently adopted Melton Local Plan are for the development of sustainable neighborhoods on the northern and southern fringes of Melton Mowbray. It is envisaged that together they will accommodate over 3700 new homes, 20 hectares of new employment land and all the physical, community and green infrastructure needed to create great places to live.

The Council has commissioned One Creative Environments Ltd to undertake masterplanning work for Melton North and Melton South Sustainable Neighbourhoods. The masterplans will help ensure the delivery of all of the development and infrastructure that is needed in each sustainable neighbourhood, and help ensure that they are well designed and laid out, and integrated into the existing urban fabric.

Melton Sustainable Neighbourhoods Supplementary Planning Document

The Council has decided to prepare the masterplans as a Supplementary Planning Document (SPD), which once finalised, will be formally adopted by the Council.

A public consultation was recently undertaken on the Melton Sustainable Neighbourhoods SPD Scoping Report, and its accompanying Sustainability Appraisal, Strategic Environmental Assessment and Habitats Regulations Assessment Screening Report. This consultation is the first stage in preparing a SPD, with a further public consultation on a draft SPD to follow later this summer.

The scoping report consultation ran from Friday 7th June to Thursday 25th July inclusive

The documents that the Council is consulted on are as follows:

This consultation has now closed.

A schedule summarising the comments received will appear here shortly.
The public consultation on a draft SPD will now not take place until early autumn at the earliest. Further information about the forward timetable will appear here in September.
