Design of Development Supplementary Planning Document (SPD)
Consultation on a Draft Design of Development SPD runs between 10th June 2021 and 22nd July 2021.
The Design Supplementary Planning Document (SPD) provides additional guidance on the design related policies in the Melton Local Plan.
The aim of the Design of Development SPD is to raise the standard of design in new developments and ensure that it is locally distinctive and responds positively to its setting. It will also cover a wide range of practical design issues such as providing sufficient parking, waste and recycling facilities and as well as guidance to help developers achieve higher environmental standards, including addressing climate change and enhancing habitats and biodiversity.
Cllr Higgins, Deputy Leader of the Council, said “Melton has a rich and diverse history that has helped to shape the places we cherish. Alongside this, we must embrace the changing demands of residents, and their families, to ensure that we create new developments that will be valued, relevant and useful in the future. Good design is a means of ensuring that new developments are a good fit with the context and create beautiful and resilient places. This document provides you with the tools to design better developments that are in line with the aspirations and objectives of the Melton Local Plan, and that will increase the quality, value and desirability of your scheme and pride in the communities we build.”
Two consultation events will take place via Zoom, on 6th July from 6pm – 8pm and 15th July from 1pm – 3pm. The events will include a short presentation followed by a Q&A session, giving the opportunity to pose questions to the Consultants and Officers involved in the production of the Design of Development SPD.
