Biodiversity Protection in New Development
As appropriate to their nature, scale and location development proposals should make appropriate provision in their design, layout and construction to protect and enhance biodiversity.
Where it practicable to do so development proposals should incorporate the following measures:
Roof and wall construction following technical best-practice recommendations for integral bird nest boxes and bat breeding and roosting sites
Hedges (or fences with ground-level gaps) for property boundaries that maintain connectivity of habitat for hedgehogs
Lighting design, location, type, lux levels and times of use should follow current bestpractice, e.g. by applying the guidelines in Guidance note 08/18 Bats and artificial lighting in the UK: Bat Conservation Trust / Institution of Lighting Professionals, 2018, as well as current regulations.
