Use of Street Lighting

Any street lighting required by new development should respect the environment within which it is located and should generate the minimum levels of luminosity. The lighting element of development proposals should be designed to take account of the following principles:

  • street lighting should be used only where and when it is needed

  • all external lighting should only shine where the light is needed and not create glare or light intrusion.

  • external lighting should be designed to minimise energy use and reduce the potential to impact wildlife, including bats.
